Ellis Island, Jersey City, New Jersey

WOW!! This has been a GREAT weekend!!  We started off taking the ferry to Ellis Island and then to see the Statue of Liberty.  AMAZING!!!!! The information on Ellis Island is unfathanable (I am sure that the spelling) Anyway, I have a bunch of pics but the stories on top of stories that the walls of this place has I could never tell you.  A couple of things that I guess I had no idea about was when the immagrants came into the building the doctors would do a "6 second physical".  If they looked at you and thought you were crazy, pregnant, had a disease, lame etc they would take a piece of chalk and put a letter on your shoulder for you to be "looked at" again.  If they decided that you had a disease or was crazy they would send you back to where you came from.  If you were fixable they sent you over to the hospital.  Again segregated from your family.  They have dormatories there if a family member had to be held until he was healthy.  One of the pics will show the different letters they would put on you.  The main hall is on the secend floor and it is very  humbling to stand there were all these hopeful and wanting people stood.  To see the pics and to read the stories you can't help to feel how amazing ALL of these stories truly are.
